Sir Tom Devine has accepted an offer of honorary membership of Scottish PEN.
Scottish PEN has awarded Honorary Memberships to those whom we believe have made a distinctive contribution to Scottish literature, whose work has advanced and enriched our literary tradition and who have openly and consistently supported the PEN commitment to freedom of expression. These Honorary Memberships are rarely granted and reflect the individual’s commitment to PEN’s ideals and cover the range of PEN membership.
Carl MacDougall, President of Scottish PEN, said:
‘We are delighted that Sir Tom Devine has accepted our offer of honorary membership. As a champion of the ideals of Scottish PEN, who has contributed so much to the literary sphere in Scotland and beyond, our Board felt strongly that he represented the spirit of PEN membership’.
Sir Tom Devine joins Jenni Calder, Carol Ann Duffy, Christine De Luca, Laura Fiorentini, Jackie Kay, Eric Milligan, Ian Rankin, JK Rowling, Alexander McCall Smith, Wole Soyinka, Joan Lingard and Louise Welsh in honorary membership.
