Scottish PEN member and Burns scholar Gerard Carruthers speaks on the compassion and enduring appeal of Scotland’s national poet.
As an organisation that, among its other objectives, champions Scottish literature, Scottish PEN is pleased to have the opportunity to celebrate the work of our national poet, Robert Burns, on his birthday.
We are particularly happy to be able to share with you some reflections on Burns and his work specially recorded for Scottish PEN by Gerard Carruthers, the Francis Hutcheson Professor of Scottish Literature at the University of Glasgow, General Editor of the Oxford University Press OUP edition of the Complete Works of Robert Burns, and Scottish PEN member.
Our deepest thanks are due to Gerry for taking the time to share his thoughts. And, happy Burns Day to everybody!
