We’re hiring! Project Officer (fixed term, part-time)

Scottish PEN is looking for a Project Officer for a 17-month fixed period, from 1 Nov 2016 – 31 Mar 2018. This individual will work on Scottish PEN’s exciting ‘Many Voices’ project, connecting writers with partner charities and organisations across Scotland and providing an international perspective to the themes discussed in the resulting writing groups. We believe in the power of stories to connect people and make silenced voices louder. This role requires partnership liaison, excellent communication and event organisation skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with six partner organisations (including HMYOI Polmont, International Women’s Group Glasgow, Move On, Orkney Library and Archive) within Scotland, as well as further afield (PEN International, other PEN centres across the world);
  • Supporting recruitment of writers in coordination with partner organisations;
  • Supporting organisation of training workshops for six writers;
  • Organising travel arrangements and managing dates for workshops;
  • Supporting travel arrangements for six international writers in collaboration with International PEN centres;
  • Liaising with festivals across Scotland to organise events related to the Many Voices project;
  • Gathering feedback from partner organisations and group attendees.

Essential:

  • Excellent administrative skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Experience in working under pressure, managing multiple deadlines, and working alone and as part of a team;
  • Experience of successfully building and maintaining relationships with multiple partner organisations;
  • Experience of successful event organisation;
  • Experience of project evaluation;
  • Experience of working in the literature and/or charity sector;
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of working with vulnerable groups.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with human rights-related campaigns;
  • Experience of working in creative writing development and training.

Working Patterns:

This post requires a working pattern across an average of 18 hours/week at the Scottish PEN office in Edinburgh, with some travel across Scotland.

Contract / Remuneration:

The contract is offered from 1 Nov 2016 – 31 March 2018 at NJC Scale 6 points 27-28 (£23,935–24,964) p.a. (pro rata, 2.5 days/week). This position may be taken as salaried employment or on a freelance basis.
